Solemnity of Pentecost & The Sacrament of Confirmation
The Sacrament of Confirmation will be bestowed upon Elle Sossong during today's Holy Mass.
Pentecost is one of the most important feast days in the Catholic Church. It marks the day the Holy Spirit descended upon the Apostles, empowering them to begin their public ministry and spread the Gospel. Occurring 50 days after Easter, Pentecost is often called the "birthday of the Church" because it marks the beginning of the Church's mission to the world.
On that day, as described in Acts of the Apostles, the Apostles were gathered in one place when a sound like a strong wind filled the house and "tongues as of fire" rested on each of them. They were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different languages.
Scripture References:
"And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues, as the Spirit enabled them to proclaim." — Acts 2:4
"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem... and to the ends of the earth." — Acts 1:8
Pentecost reminds us that the Holy Spirit is alive and active in the Church today, guiding, strengthening, and sending us forth to share Christ’s love with the world.
