Marian Devotions

Marian Devotions – Our prayerful devotions to the Blessed Virgin Mary will be offered each Wednesday during her month, the month of May, at 7:00 pm in the Cathedral. The Litany to our Blessed Mother, the Theotokos, the Mother of God, together with the benediction of the Blessed Sacrament will be celebrated beginning May 6th and the successive Wednesdays of the 13th, 20th and 27th. Please plan to participate in our Marian devotions this year.

Marian devotion is a specialized form of veneration directed toward the Virgin Mary within Catholic, Orthodox, and some Anglican traditions. It emphasizes love for Mary as the Mother of God, focusing on her role in salvation history, intercessory power, and immaculate holiness, often through prayers like the Rosary, pilgrimages, and feast days.

Through our devotions in the month of May we honor Mary and seek her intercession to bring believers closer to Jesus Christ. We view our Marian devotions as a way to allow Mary to be a spiritual mother and guide, aiding in personal spiritual growth and reflecting her obedience to God. Marian devotion has roots in the earliest Church, growing significantly by the Middle Ages as a way to meditate on her role in the life of Christ.
