Septuagesima Sunday
As we encounter Septuagesima Sunday, we begin our transition toward the solemnity of Lent, turning our hearts back to the essential truths of our faith.
The Message
In this Sunday’s Gospel, Matthew 5:17-37, Jesus provides a profound clarification of His mission. He does not come to abolish the Law or the Prophets, but to fulfill them.
"Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them." — Matthew 5:17
Christ calls us to a righteousness that goes beyond mere outward compliance. He challenges us to look inward, at the anger in our hearts, the sincerity of our words, and the purity of our intentions. On this Septuagesima Sunday, we are reminded that the "race" of our spiritual life requires discipline and a heart aligned with God’s true will.
As we prepare for the journey toward Easter, let us ask for the grace to not just follow the letter of the Law, but to live out its spirit in love and truth.
