The Mass of Holy Chrism
As we gather for the Chrism Mass, the Church is drawn together in a powerful sign of unity around the bishop, priests, and faithful just before the sacred days of the Triduum. In this solemn liturgy, the holy oils and sacred chrism are blessed for use in the sacraments throughout the coming year, reminding us that through Baptism and anointing we belong to Christ and share in His mission. The Mass also marks the renewal of priestly promises, highlighting the sacred calling of those who serve God’s people in teaching, sanctifying, and guiding the faithful.
In the Gospel, Jesus proclaims, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me,” revealing that He is the fulfillment of God’s promise to bring glad tidings, healing, freedom, and hope. That same Spirit continues to work in the life of the Church through the sacraments and through all the baptized, calling us to live with faith, unity, and renewed purpose in Christ.
