Tenebrae
You are invited to experience the ancient and profoundly moving service of Tenebrae tonight at 7:00 PM.
Rooted in Christian tradition dating back to the 2nd century and shaped into its present form during the Middle Ages, Tenebrae is a unique Good Friday liturgy celebrated in near darkness. As the service unfolds, candles are gradually extinguished, symbolizing the abandonment of Christ by His followers in the hours leading to His Passion.
One solitary candle remains, representing Christ. As it is taken away, the church is plunged into darkness. A sudden sound then breaks the silence, recalling the suffering and death of Our Lord.
The service also includes powerful readings from both the Old and New Testaments, presented in a solemn chant-like tone that draws us deeply into the mystery of Holy Week.
Come and enter into this sacred and prayerful remembrance of the Passion of Christ.
