Third Sunday in Advent
On this Third Sunday of Advent, often called Gaudete Sunday, the Church invites us to rejoice as we draw closer to the coming of Christ. In today’s Gospel (Matthew 11:2–11), John the Baptist sends his disciples to Jesus with a heartfelt question: “Are you the one who is to come, or should we look for another?”
Jesus responds not with titles or claims, but with signs of hope: the blind see, the lame walk, the poor hear good news. In these works of mercy, Jesus reveals that God’s kingdom is already breaking into the world.
This Gospel reminds us that even faithful hearts can experience moments of doubt or waiting.
Advent reassures us that God is at work, often quietly, always faithfully.
As we light the rose candle of joy, may our hearts be strengthened with trust, renewed with hope, and filled with the joy that comes from knowing Christ is near.
