First Sunday in Advent
As we begin the season of Advent, the Church calls us to awaken our hearts and renew our hope in the coming of Christ. In this Sunday’s Gospel (Matthew 24:37–44), Jesus reminds His disciples to stay alert and ready, for “the Son of Man will come at an hour you do not expect.”
Just as people in Noah’s time went about their daily lives unaware of the flood to come, we too can become distracted by routine and miss the quiet ways God is at work. Advent invites us to slow down, to pray, and to prepare, not with fear, but with joyful anticipation.
This season is more than a countdown to Christmas; it is a sacred time to make room for Christ, in our homes, our hearts, and our lives. May we watch with faith, live with hope, and be ready to welcome the Lord when He comes in glory.
