Solemnity of the Humble Shepherds

In today’s Gospel, the shepherds respond immediately to the angel’s message, saying, “Let us go, then, to Bethlehem to see this thing that has taken place.” They go in haste and find Mary and Joseph, and the infant Jesus lying in the manger. These humble shepherds become the first witnesses to the Incarnation, proclaiming what they have seen and heard.

Their example reminds us that God reveals His greatest mysteries not to the powerful or learned, but to the humble and open of heart. As Mary treasures these events in silence, the shepherds return glorifying and praising God. On this Solemnity, we are invited to follow their example, approaching Christ with simplicity, sharing the Good News with joy, and giving praise to God for the gift of His Son, born for us in humility and love.
