Solemnity of Christ the King

Nov 23, 2025

This weekend, we celebrate the closing of the Church’s liturgical year with the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe, a feast that reminds us that Christ’s kingship is not marked by power or prestige, but by mercy, humility, and love.

In the Gospel (Luke 23:35–43), we encounter Jesus on the cross, surrounded by mockery and scorn. The rulers sneer, the soldiers jeer, and one of the criminals joins in their taunts. Yet amid the pain and rejection, another criminal turns to Jesus with faith and hope: “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” To him, our crucified King replies, “Amen, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.”

This powerful exchange captures the heart of Christ’s reign—a kingdom built not on fear or force, but on forgiveness and love. As we prepare to enter the new liturgical year, let us reflect on where Christ reigns in our own lives. Do we allow Him to rule in our hearts, in our homes, and in the way we treat one another?

May this Feast of Christ the King renew in us a deep trust in His mercy and inspire us to live as faithful citizens of His eternal kingdom...serving, loving, and forgiving as He has done for us.
